Sabatini got himself involved in a really foolish relationship, and remained in it even when every sign pointed to the woman being absolutely batshit crazy, and as often happens with these things she went on to do batshit crazy things and managed, because of the times we live in, to get everyone on her side and the ravening horde did its chomping.
I always analogize things like this to the sabertooth waiting at the watering hole not far from the cave entrance. It's unfair that someone whose only crime is to be thirsty at night should end up ripped to pieces. I've done my share of dumb stuff and am most grateful to have survived my idiocies, and I feel great pity for those who never made it past the one error in judgment.
But life is cruel that way. Sabatini slaked his perfectly normal lust, and fate slaked itself on him.
