Unfortunately I have to agree. There is absolutely nothing scientific about child vaccine mandates. Biden’s speech you quoted was chilling—Biden is definitely NOT everyone’s president. All the state health departments codifying that white people get drugs last is truly frightening. I don’t know the way out, because I think you are correct and the progressive Ds are trying to keep Hilary Clinton’s deplorables in check to a much greater extent than they are fighting a battle against a virus that has already one. Except now that all of us former democratic/classical liberals are deplorable also, I am

really counting on democracy at work in the next election. I think a pendulum shift will also require the next generation of college graduates to realize DEI is anything but and to help us though. I’d love to know more about how the McCarthy era ended and the Salem

witch trials.

Excellent essay Leighton. I felt like I was reading 1984 again. Keep up the good work. I am glad that I subscribed.

As a 74 year old retired well educated technical professional with a managerial background I have many cohorts that, like me, agree with your analysis. The elites you are talking about treat us old folks with disdain and ignore what we have to say. It's frustrating to say the least. We have to teach them a lesson in the next election and hopefully begin a transition back to a more rational and thoughtful society informed by serious consideration of wide ranging points of view.

"In every restaurant in blue state America, masked servants cater to unmasked dining guests;"

I'm glad you qualified that. Here in Flyover, it's easy to dine while being served by folks, many of whom might be friends, whose faces you can see.

Back in early December it was pretty obvious to anyone watching Dr John Campbell's daily YouTube talks Omicron signaled the end of the pandemic. So many people and institutions (especially Big Pharma and the media and politicians they pay for) simply do not want to let it go. After a week attending a trade show in Vegas, I might at this moment be recovering from Omicron. Or maybe not. Who knows? Some kind of cold and I'm not getting tested. Nor is a booster of any kind justified. The week before I was in Vegas my ex and my entire sister's family had Omicron. We all made jokes about it. It's over.

I am genuinely mystified as to what post-pandemic America will look like. Positions have solidified to religious dogma. Happily, in the UK at least they seem to be having a retrospective discussion about the efficacy of the lockdowns, something it's difficult to imagine happening here. You're right over the target bro. Not sure there's anyone else out who can see what's going on quite so clearly. Keep it up!

I enjoy the essay, as always, but while understanding this is good, what do we do about it? I agree that the "battle will rage on," but at some point a feeling of helplessness and degradation turns into a "nothing left to lose" attitude and a "making oneself heard by any means necessary" approach. It would seem a good idea to derail this train before we get to that point.

I agree; it's a political football, but also, as I mentioned earlier, smoke and mirrors to distract us all from the gross ineptitude of most of our leaders over the past 10 years to prepare for the pandemic everyone knew was coming. First paragraph: " We'll have better treatment." Will we and if so how much will it ycost. Take molnupiravir which was developed to treat equine elephantitis then approved to treat COVID-19 at $700 per treatment (44 times its actual cost) truly a horse paste. Ivermectin was banned despite hundreds of studies ostensibly because there had been no large randomized double blind trials yet Pfizer eliminated its placebo group after developing its Covid vaccine destroying a valuable database that could have measured long-term effects. That was not scientific. You state that the most totalitarian measures have not been enacted under Covid but "more subtle changes have unquestionably taken place." Though you do list the massive increase in wealth of the wealthy, the nearly 40% of small businesses destroyed by lockdowns is not a subtle change nor the current mindset of Democractic voters. Consider the 1/13/22 Rasmussen study "COVID-19 democratic voters support harsh measures against unvaccinated." These include: 55% favor firing Americans who choose not to get vaccinated, 59% favor a government policy confining them to their homes at all times, 48% think governments should be able to fire or imprisoned individuals who publicly questionthe effacacy of COVID-19 vaccines on social media, TV, radio, or online. In California vaccine passports are still in effect, attacks on sub stack and Spotify accelerate, and legislators continue to promote restrictive legislation (SB 277 The keep schools open and safe act introduced by Richard Pan 1/24/22 would eliminate the personal beliefs exemption for children and require them to take a "vaccine" for a virus that poses little risk to them. A mass hysteria of fear has replaced critical opinion despite the fact that vaccinated people can still get Covid and spread it. Finally you made some very good points in your article however portraying those critical of the vaccine only policy and lockdowns as ignorant followers of the orange man does a disservice those scientists and front-line doctors who contend that early treatment could have saved thousands of lives and that the cost of lockdowns in terms of lost businesses, damage to schoolchildren, and health has been significant.
