It's been one of the most striking things I've noticed over the past six or so years: the lack of compassion, forgiveness, and empathy in political discussions. Yes, it's not always helpful to go "Back in the day...," but truly, this is how so many of us were raised to treat others, and I refuse to live otherwise. Not everything in the past needs to be abolished.
