I watched Mr.O'Brien's speech and was struck by one thing. He is a labor leader that puts the welfare of his members first. I don't see that in many of today's labor leaders.
That last paragraph is the best articulation of what I’ve been trying to argue to every scoffing lefty I’ve attempted to reason with over the last eight years. Those lefties can keep scoffing into the void as the realignment makes them ever more irrelevant.
A piece like this is why I subscribe. I am a lefty, all my life, and an Appalachian, all my life. My Facebook feed is blowing up with posts about how J.D. Vance is "not an Appalachian", just "a wealthy elitist", etc. I don't like Vance, really dislike Trump. But J.D. Vance has credentials as a working class guy equal or better than those of "Scranton Joe". And if Biden’s mother had been born in Breathitt County KY ("Bloody Breathitt"), as Vance’s was, the Dems would be trumpeting him as a "son of Appalachia", a region they have entirely lost.
Thanks for this. You are pointing to questions that really need to be addressed by avowed socialists like Ben Burgis and Freddie deBoer, and others of their ilk.
Bernie Sanders failed and Trump succeeded. He stole the working class out from under the Democrats. It’s a tectonic shift in American politics. Even more so since the Democrats are imploding under Joe Biden’s senility.
Addendum: not only is Trump a great man, he is a fucker. He fucked every one of those Republicans by giving the stage to the Irish Boston Union boss who gave it to them good and hard. The look on trump’s face was pleasure and satisfaction. He loves to give people what they deserve.
Such a good article! Add to the mix, AI disruption, rise of white collar unions, Elon Musk influence over the Republican ticket and we have interesting times ahead.

Trump invited the head of the Teamsters to lecture and hector his own party for being , well, what should I say, hum, …..greedy assholes.
Trump is a great man.
Vance’s take on economics, capitalism and regulation is a bullseye.
Biden used bullseye 🎯 as well.

Excellent piece.
